Why I love Tim Burton

Today is the last day of the year 2012. I wanted to write about my favorite director Tim Burton.
Hi, this is Santiago, you can call me Santi for short, I am going to talk about Tim Burton movies. Tim Burton is my favorite director, he is friends with Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp, they are both actors for his movies. His first short film called Vincent, it's about a boy who want's to be Vincent Price. But Tim Burton wanted to make more films, so his very first movie was The Nightmare Before Christmas. Tim started it as a poem narrated by Christopher Lee. The movie is directed by Henry Selick, the director of James and the Giant Peach, and producer of Coraline and ParaNorman. The Nightmare Before Christmas is about a skeleton

I made this poster because I love Tim Burton. Tim Burton was born on August 25, 1958. He is an American film director, producer, writer and artist. He likes to work with actor Johnny Depp who has acted in some of his films like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride. Some of my favorite movies that he has done are Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, James and the Giant Peach, Charley and the Chocolate Factory, Frankenweenie and his short film Vincent. Maybe I even like Alice in Wonderland.
Tim Burton likes to make spooky movies and I like to them too because they are not boring. He makes cool characters who are not perfect, even creepy. He even made a few movies based on the books of Roald Dahl. I think they would have been good friends.

Here are links to the trailers of some great Tim Burton Movies:

Tales where Children are born from Nature

In school we read a Japanese story about a boy who was born in a peach. Then we read Thumbelina who was born on a flower. I decided to watch the same movie that my friends in class did here in Mexico. It was called The Odd Life of Timothy Green.

Here is what the movie is about:
It is about a man and woman named Mr. and Mrs. Green. The father works in a pencil factory. They have a nice house but they want a child. They wanted to have a good one. They wrote down how he should be. Here are a list of things:

Never give up
Have a great heart
Funny
Honest
Musical
Artistic
Score the  winning goal

So they put all of their notes of ideas in a box and buried it in the garden. Then a boy covered in dirt appears in their house. His name is Timothy. His mom gives him a bath and discovers that he has leaves growing on his ankles. They try to cut them off but they cannot. The leaves are stuck to him. The next day Timothy goes to a birthday party, he wears socks to hide his leaves. He dives in the swimming pool but he doesn't know how to swim because he was born from nature. He just stayed at the bottom of the pool and never came back up to the surface. A girl named Joli dives in the pool and tries to take off his socks. He kicks her so she can't see his leaves. After that he tries to run away from her and she shows him a big red spot on her body. Timothy finds out that he is not the only person who is different from others. Soon they become friends and play in the forest and catch the falling leaves off the trees. When they're done playing Timothy first leaf falls. His Uncle Bob was very sick but he made him feel happy and so he gave him his first leaf. Then Timothy decides to make a pencil out of leaves. One of the things I liked from the movie was when he said...
"With a pencil anything is possible". Then he did a drawing of the lady who owned the pencil factory and another leaf fell. He gave that one to her. Him and his girlfriend Joli have more adventures in the forest. They rode bikes then built a fort out of leaves. Timothy goes to a music recital to find out which instrument to play. He finds a bell and a mallet and starts playing a tune. Timothy goes to a soccer game and his number was 0. His coach told him to stay put but his father told him to watch the ball and start moving his legs. The sun comes out and he spreads his arms open and closes his eyes. Then when he opens them the ball comes, he kicks it and scored the winning goal. Everyone cheered including his friend Joli. "If you keep practicing the better you'll get"
his father told him. Then another leaf fell. He went home and put that one in an envelope then jumped into bed. In the end when his last leaf falls he leaves his parents and the only thing they found was a box with his envelope in it and a leaf inside. Finally he gave everyone that he cared for a leaf for a gift.

Here are some lessons from the movie.
Everybody makes mistakes
it's OK to be diffrent

So far it is the last movie I've seen and is one of my most recent favorite movies.

Building a Pirate Ship

There are lots of cool toys in Mexico. Here's a picture of me playing with my giant blue pencil.
You bounce the bottom part of it on the ground and it shoots up high. Here's what happened to my pencil. I popped it on a cactus when playing outside.
It made a hole in it and deflated out air.
pssssssssssssssss!
Speaking of cool toys I built a pirate ship.
Here are the parts I used to build the pirate ship.

The Treasure Chest Floating out to Sea

Books I read over Christmas Vacation

The Adventures of Tintin: A Novel [Movie Tie-In]
Alexander Irvine. Little Brown and Company. 231 pages.

What the book is about:
Tintin buys a model ship in the old street market. But it is not just any ship it holds a clue to Red Rackham's treasure...a pirate treasure. He is a pirate who sunk Sir Francis's ship called The Unicorn which is based on Tintin's model. Tintin and his dog snowy go on a daring adventure from land to sea.

My review of this book:
I think that this book is awesome! I like it! In fact I love it! I give a thumbs up to it. Actually I liked how the chapters went. The action built up into adventure and I love reading Tintin comics by Herge. In the Tintin cartoons, Herge always puts himself in them. He draws Tintin and Snowy going on new adventures. I love the movie. I think that this is one of my favorite movies.

Drawing from Memory
Allen Say. Scholastic Press. 63 pages.

What the book is about:
This is the story of a boy who wanted to be a cartoonist. He lived on the seashore of Japan. His father did not want him to be an artist or a cartoonist. He traveled to Tokyo to meet a famous cartoonist when he was just twelve years old. He studied drawing and became a great artist himself. He read all the comic books and studied the art helped by his mentor Noro Shinpei. Allen Say went on to win the Caldecott Medal and became a great artist.

My review of this book:
I liked it and we learned some lessons from it like:
Love your mistakes.
It's OK to waste charcoal and paper.
You can erase with fresh bread.
It's OK to go outside the lines.
I liked the way he drew the book like a cartoon strip.

A Christmas Carol. The Junior Novel.
James Ponti. Disney Press. 144 pages.

What the book is about:
The story is based on a classic book by Charles Dickens. It is about an old grumpy, greedy man named Scrooge. He works with Bob Cratchit in a counting house. His partner Jacob Marley is dead as a doornail. He comes to tell Scrooge that he will be visited by three spirits. Scrooge knows he must change and give money away to the poor.

My review of this book:
I liked it so much. In fact I think it's my favorite Christmas story of all time. So I decided to write my own version of this famous story and you can read it here in my blog. Scrooge meets Jacob Marley, he gets shot up to the moon, he gets chased by a horse carriage driven by ghosts, he floats around in a flying building with the ghost of Christmas present. It has spooky scenes in it, it also has a few things to do with Halloween like ghosts and graveyards. In the month of Halloween I like ghosts and graveyards. I kind of miss when Thanksgiving comes but I have more fun when Christmas arrives.

Vincent
Vincent Maloy is seven years old
He's always polite and does what he's told
For a boy his age he's considered and nice
But he want's to be just like Vincent Price
He doesn't mind living with his sister's dog and cats
Though he'd rather share a home with spiders and bats
There he can reflect on the horrors he's invented
And wonder dark hall ways that no one had tormented
Vincent is nice when his aunt comes to see him
But imagines dipping her in wax for his wax museum
He likes to experiment on his dog Apracrombie
In hopes of creating a horrible zombie
So he and his horrible zombie dog
Can go searching for victims in the London fog.
